In part 1 of 2, Jodie Pulsifer from Full Circle Physiotherapy talks about Diastasis Recti. Many people have questions about their abdominal wall during and after pregnancy.
The space between the '6-pack' muscles is something we all have - it allows our stomach to expand and contract naturally (like after a big dinner!)
During pregnancy, this needs to stretch in order to accommodate a growing baby. Therefore, at the end of pregnancy, 100% of people will have a Diastasis or abdominal separation.
There is currently no conclusive evidence that links what is done during pregnancy with the severity of the Diastasis. And the rate of recovery will be different for everyone. We can however, learn to be functional and strong regardless of the size of the Diastasis.
